Advantages and disadvantages
The LiFePO
4 battery uses a lithium-ion-derived chemistry and shares many advantages and disadvantages with other Lithium-ion battery chemistries. However, there are significant differences.
LFP chemistry offers a longer cycle life than other lithium-ion approaches.
Like nickel-based rechargeable batteries (and unlike other lithium ion batteries)[citation needed], LiFePO4 batteries have a very constant discharge voltage. Voltage stays close to 3.2V during discharge until the battery is exhausted. This allows the battery to deliver virtually full power until it is discharged. And it can greatly simplify or even eliminate the need for voltage regulation circuitry.
Because of the nominal 3.2V output, four cells can be placed in series for a nominal voltage of 12.8V. This comes close to the nominal voltage of six-cell lead-acid batteries. And, along with the good safety characteristics of LFP batteries, this makes LFP a good potential replacement for lead-acid batteries in many applications such as automotive and solar applications.
The use of phosphates avoids cobalt's cost and environmental concerns, particularly concerns about cobalt entering the environment through improper disposal.[7]
LiFePO4 has higher current or peak-power ratings than LiCoO2.[8]
The energy density (energy/volume) of a new LFP battery is some 14% lower than that of a new LiCoO2 battery.[9] Also, many brands of LFPs, as well as cells within a given brand of LFP batteries, have a lower discharge rate than lead-acid or LiCoO2.[citation needed] Since discharge rate is a percentage of battery capacity a higher rate can be achieved by using a larger battery (more Ampere-hours) if low current batteries must be used. Better yet, a high current LFP cell (which will have a higher discharge rate than a lead acid or LiCoO2 battery of the same capacity) can be used.
LiFePO4 cells experience a slower rate of capacity loss (aka greater calendar-life) than lithium-ion battery chemistries such as LiCoO2 cobalt or LiMn2O4 manganese spinel lithium-ion polymer batteries or lithium-ion batteries.[10] After one year on the shelf, a LiFePO
4 cell typically has approximately the same energy density as a LiCoO2 Li-ion cell, because of LFP's slower decline of energy density. Thereafter, LiFePO
4 likely has a higher energy density.

Because lithium-ion batteries can have a variety of positive and negative electrode materials, the energy density and voltage vary accordingly.
The open circuit voltage is higher than aqueous batteries (such as lead acid, nickel-metal hydride and nickel-cadmium).[62] Internal resistance increases with both cycling and age.Rising internal resistance causes the voltage at the terminals to drop under load, which reduces the maximum current draw. Eventually increasing resistance means that the battery can no longer operate for an adequate period.
Batteries with a lithium iron phosphate positive and graphite negative electrodes have a nominal open-circuit voltage of 3.2 V and a typical charging voltage of 3.6 V. Lithium nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) oxide positives with graphite negatives have a 3.7 V nominal voltage with a 4.2 V maximum while charging. The charging procedure is performed at constant voltage with current-limiting circuitry (i.e., charging with constant current until a voltage of 4.2 V is reached in the cell and continuing with a constant voltage applied until the current drops close to zero). Typically, the charge is terminated at 3% of the initial charge current. In the past, lithium-ion batteries could not be fast-charged and needed at least two hours to fully charge. Current-generation cells can be fully charged in 45 minutes or less.

Conditioning controversy
There is a popular belief that Li+ batteries need to be "conditioned" before first use. One is told to plug the battery/device into a charger and leave it there for seven or eight hours, even if it's fully charged, perhaps to "saturate the cells". But this may simply be a confusion of the battery software calibration instructions with the "conditioning" instructions for NiCd and NiMH batteries. The software of a typical smart phone, for example, learns how to accurately gauge the battery's life, by watching it discharge, and leaving it on the charger produces a series of "micro discharges" that the software can watch and learn from.
Lithium Ion batteries definitely do not need the "conditioning" of being fully discharged and charged the way NiCd and NiMH batteries do. In fact, there is a similar debate over whether fully discharging an Li+ battery will cause the very sort of problem that is "fixed" by doing so with the older battery types.
Looking after your battery
All our scooters have the latest generation of Lithium batteries with battery management circuitry built into them. This BMC is there to protect against overcharging and over draining the battery cells. It also ensures that all the battery cells charge and discharge evenly giving the whole battery a longer life.
The best way to look after the battery on your scooter is to use regularly. Leaving it discharged is likely to shorten its life. So ride your scooter regularly and recharge it regularly. It's usually lack of use that causes problems.
Never leave your battery discharged for long periods of time. If you are not going to use your Scooter for a while, charge its battery every month anyway. If necessary get a monthly timer so it can be recharged every 4 weeks automatically. That way you can just plug it in and the timer will take care of it for you without you having to worry about it.
When your Scooter is new, fully discharge and re-chargecharge the battery at least once, this conditions the battery cells. After that there is no need to discharge the battery before recharging. There is no memory effect on our batteries so you can top them up at any time, and we recommend that you do this.
In the winter or when it is cold, any battery will become less efficient. This is true of all batteries, you will be aware that after a freezing night on and on cold morning cars can be more difficult to start because the battery has got so cold. It is not quite the same with an lithium battery, but if the battery is allowed to get very cold by being left out in a garage or shed, the battery efficiency will drop considerably. This will result in the scooter feeling a bit slower and the range or distance it will travel before a recharge is required will be reduced.
If you can keep your scooter indoors when the weather is very cold it will not just help the battery and all the moving parts it will run better as well reducing any drag and general wear.
Your electric scooter relies on it's batteries, so look after the battery and it will look after you.
Electric bikes and scooters do need a bit more attention, but these simple precautions will prolong their life, and give you many happy years of use

Single cell has large voltage
The operating voltage of a single Li-ion battery cell is as high as 3.2-3.8V (LiFePO4 is 3.2V), which is three times that of a Ni-Cd cell or Ni-MH cell and two times that of lead-acid battery.
High unit weight energy (wh/kg)
The Li-ion battery has an excellent energy to weight ratio, 150Wh/kg. This is two times higher than that of a Ni-MH battery and four times that of a lead-acid battery. Operates within a wide temperature range
Li-Ion batteries are able to operate between -20℃to +55℃.They are ideal for working at low temperatures. Ni-MH batteries and lead-acid batteries have an aqueous solution and their performance will be reduced at a low temperature as the fluidity of the electrolyte will have been affected. Separator film
The Separator film is comprised of internationally advanced Celgars PP-PE-PP three layer composite membranes. When the temperature reaches 120℃ the PE film will increase the resistance of battery. When the temperature reaches 135℃ the PP will cause cut-off of the interior circuit of the battery. Therefore the temperature will not increase any further.

Doing this will increase the resistance of the battery to protect it from any increase in temperature when the battery voltage is higher than 4.2V during charging.
Use of compound structure cell lid
The cell lid has applied nick ex ball structure. This structure allows gas to be released if an increase in battery temperature leads to a chemical reaction which causes it to swell.
Environmental tests
Environmental tests are conducted to mimic potential scenarios the battery will encounter. For example, short circuiting, over-charging, piercing or overheating. Other tests like battery temperature, impact, vibration, drop test are done to assess the strength of the battery performance in different situations.

4. Do batteries self-discharge when not in use?
Yes, there is a small self discharge with all battery chemistries; however CNE LiFePO4 cells can be stored up to one year without re-charging. To maximise performance it is advised that the cell is recharged after four months of storage. The self discharge is greater under higher storage temperature (from 45oC upwards). Note: It is advisable to monitor the condition and state of charge every month in all circumstances to ensure that batteries are not over discharged.

5. How does temperature affect Li-ion batteries?
At a high temperature the capacity will decrease and constant exposure will cause increasing capacity fade. At a low temperature the resistance will be higher reducing the efficiency of charging and discharging. The PCM/BMS will protect the battery pack from short term over or under standard operational temperatures (-10 oC to +60 oC). However it is advisable to keep the operating temperature within -10 oC to +60 oC at all times. The optimum temperature for both long life and performance is around 25 oC.

6. What should we do with the lithium batteries after 5-6 years?
CNE LiFePO4 batteries can be used for up to 2000 to 2500 cycles (DOD 80%/ 0.5C). If one cycle a day is completed, one battery can last for five to six years and remain 80% of their original capacity. After this time the batteries can be used as a storage power device or be used for the low-end EV market. After termination of the LiFePO4 batteries, material can be recycled. In addition, the battery materials are largely non-polluting.

7. Can the batteries be deep discharged? How can they be recovered if this happens?
The Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry does not exhibit any ‘memory’ effect in the way other types of batteries do, so remain usable across 100% of capacity. However the batteries must remain above minimum voltage (>2.0V per cell block) to protect the cells from possible reverse currents, once the battery reaches this minimum level it should not be left at this level and must be recovered up to its normal operational voltage as soon as possible. It is recommended that the module/battery is cycled if stored for longer than 4 months even if it is fully charged at the beginning of the storage or non operational period.
